Eleanor’s Childcare Volunteering in Bali

In July 2021 (sorry I know it seems a long way away now), just after I qualify (hopefully) as a teacher I am embarking on a 6 week adventure to Bali! My plan is to travel for 2 weeks and then I will be taking part in a childcare volunteer programme for 4 weeks where I work in childcare settings such as nurseries and schools, looking after children, planning activities and teaching English. For those that know me, this is my dream!!

While undertaking my degree, I have worked in nursery settings in the holidays and enjoy every second of my school placements during my degree. Having worked in different schools and settings, I feel now it is time to see these from a different light and help children in an underprivileged environment. I want to be able to go into my first classroom and appreciate every aspect of what I do, even more so than I do now! But also, to be able to teach the future generation about respect and to appreciate what they have and that some children aren’t as lucky as they are, providing examples from my trip!

I would really appreciate any help and support in my efforts in giving back to those who need it by helping to fund the volunteer side of my trip. I am paying for my own flights and travel aspect but I hope to raise some money to help cover my costs of living near the volunteer location but mainly raise funds to donate resources like pens and paper, books and school uniforms that a great number of the children in these locations do not have. I have spoken to the organisation and they have advised that I raise the money and then purchase the products to donate when I get out there due to my limited luggage allowance.

With Bali being a place that rely on tourism and these communities relying on volunteers to help teach and look after their children, and the coronavirus stoping this in 2020, I am sure any contributions will go a long way next year and will be very much appreciated:)

I aim to post as much as I can about my trip and I am planning on doing a little blog with updates about the children and the settings I am in and where the money will be spent and the happiness I hope it brings!

Despite being absolutely petrified of flying solo, I know this will be a trip that I never forget and hopefully makes a difference to the Indonesian community in Bali.
