El Zonte is a beautiful beach town on the coast of El Salvador. It's lovely people have been highly challenged by the economic shutdown, the massive tropical storm in early June, and the looming threat of illness.
During the quarantine, local organizations created food donation programs, which I had the fortune of being a part of. I was able to see, first hand, the direct benefit of even the smallest donations. We were able to purchase the basic necessities in bulk, stretching the dollars in a very efficient way.
Now that we are in 'phase 1' of re-opening, there are still many business that are not allowed to re-open, so many people are unable to work. I would like to help fill the gap by providing food and medicine to our community of El Zonte.
We have had so many good times here, enjoying the surf and the beaches. The kindness of the locals has been heart-warming in an ongoing way, and I'd like to give back during this unique period of need.
I have teamed up with Alex Novoa (Esencia Nativa) and Nette Klement ( Salty Souls ) to source/distribute the food and medicine. For the medicines, we are following the recommendations of La Vida Pharmacy. We are purchasing the following items:
-Ibuprofen 400 mg tablets (anti-inflammatory)
-Sudagrip (cough medicine)
-Clorhexidina (oral antiseptic)
-Tea Tree Oil
I have already started distributing medicines with my own money, but we need way more that I can contribute alone. My gratitude for all donations is immense. Thank you SO much!!
