El Zonte Bridge

El Zonte is a small rural village located on the Pacific coast of El Salvador. The village is separated in half by a river. During the dry season the river remains shallow and is easily passable but in the wet season due to torrential rains, flash flooding can occur making the river impassable. This leads to dangers which pose as threats to the villagers safety, it limits their access to education and healthcare, and restricts economic opportunity. It affects everyone, young and old.

Our goal is to build a small footbridge across the river, one that will provide access for children to attend school and return home safely; that will allow the villagers to be able to reach the medical clinic; Local businesses will no longer be affected and local vendors can continue trying to make a living uninterrupted.

We are asking for your help. We need to raise the funds to do this before the next rainy season occurs. We have a professional engineer on board who has already made a plan layout and the local Mayor is also behind us. All we need is funds. It doesn't matter how big or small every little helps. I created this fundraising website to raise money that will go toward the materials needed to build the bridge. The amount needed is $14,000. That is more than five times the average annual income of a Salvadoran. My personal goal is to raise $1,200 to the construction of the bridge.
