El Alfarero – Solar panel installation

El Alfarero in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, is now fully open and meeting the needs of hundreds of young people and students every day. We serve students through the youth cafe, which includes a volunteering programme, through the library, the courses and training, the pregnancy crisis services, the refuge for young women and the free counselling services. The project is functioning in our newly constructed eco-build in Santa Cruz - the first green building of its kind in an urban setting in Bolivia. The building features double walls, double-glazed doors and windows, a reflective roof, rain-water harvesting, LED low consumption lighting, passive ventilation systems, eco-friendly air conditioning and an ecological lift/elevator. But there is one thing we still need to do, and this is where you can help. Although we have managed to purchase a full installation of solar panels and an inverter, we do not have any available funds to be able to instal the panels. We need £3000 or $4500 to cover the installation costs, including the aluminium roof structure, the cabling and the man-power. It is a tragedy to see 60 solar panels sitting in storage when they could be producing nearly 20kw of free electricity, protecting the environment, reducing our costs and completing our dream.
