Campaign Story
So the plan is to bring a little bit of sunshine to the children living at the Jules Ferry centre in Calais for Eid 2015.
We aim to gift every child at the camp with a rucksack filled with beneficial goodies.
We will be travelling down on Saturday 26th September to distribute the gift-filled rucksacks and spend the day celebrating with the children and playing games.
A bit of background information:
I spent the first week after having the idea for the project gleaning information from several of the awesome volunteers working in both the camp and the Jules Ferry centre.
Although it is difficult for them to use internet I've had a great response and am happy to say we have the full support and endorsement of Calais Solidarity UK for this event.
Here is what I have learned so far...
The Jules Ferry centre is primarily for women and children and has capacity for up to 100.
It is separate to the area known as the "Jungle" - there are many conflicting reports about demographics in this area so please consult one of the workers on the ground to find out more about this.
All of the work being done at the centre and in the camps is being carried out by a group of fantastic volunteers.
There is not much infrastructure although great efforts are being made to improve this.
Feel free to message me any questions you may have and I will try my best to get them answered or join the Calais Solidarity UK: People to People Facebook page :)
