Edventure

Hello my name is Zach Gilcrease. I am fundraising because I was recently accepted into a volunteer program by the group Edventrue, which I am very excited about. I am leaving on July 12 and will head back home on Aug 2. Edventure is a program that inspires young students to travel the world to volunteer and learn about the issues that our facing the world as a whole. The program I am taking part of is based in Costa Rica, where I will help the local community and environment in many ways. Costa Rica boasts a vast array of exotic species. Unfortunately because of hunting, illegal pet trade, loss of habitat, or accidents, many of these species need refuge, as a volunteer I will be educated on the proper ways to treat for these animals so that we may return them the their natural habitat. I will be in classrooms teaching local students English as well as teaching them the importance of protecting the environment and the species that live in it. Along with caring for the animals in the local conservation effort I will be working alongside professionals building and repairing shelters, cleaning animal cages, and painting signs in the animal parks. Throughout all of this I will take part in a leadership class called “Global leadership”, which will provide me with the tools to become a leader in my local community as well as at other volunteer projects around the world. I feel that this is a great experience for young people my age to have and that we can make a lot of difference in the world. I need help though in getting there, which is why I am starting this fundraiser. The cost of the program is $3,500 which will be for accommodations, meals, in-country transport, and mostly project resources. Any amount that you send would be directly helping the animals, environment, and locals in Costa Rica, as well as providing me with the knowledge to become a regular contributor to programs around the world.
