My name is Virginia and I am a South African student who has received a once in a lifetime opportunity to study in Japan with a full tuition scholarship.

First of all I would just like to thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this. I truly appreciate it, even if you can't donate I am happy someone is reading my story.

My ambition in life is to work for inter-government organisations like the United Nations to bring about change in areas that are disadvantaged. I would like to work in the health sector specifically and focus on education since I think education is the driving force of awareness and innovation.

This passion for working with education and health stems from when my father became disabled from a debilitating illness that most medical professionals could not diagnose. He is my only primary caregiver, my mother passed away when I was 7 years old, and this caused great hardship for us.

From a young age I had to prioritise my education as it was the only way to change our living situation. I graduated from high school 2nd in my grade and 1st in Biology and Chemistry. I also stood as the secretary of the Representative Council of Learners and engaged in United Nations organisations until present. This is where I discovered my love for reform through negotiations and awareness.

Last year I was fortunate to go to Japan on an exchange program for 6 months. I funded my stay through crowdfunding and part-time work as well as entrepreneurship. I braided hair, tutored students and assisted disabled individuals.

My time there taught me that there’s so much I can do in this world if I just apply myself the possibilities are endless.

Whilst there I also became proactive about continuing my passion and joined the United Nations World Peace Association (UNWPA) in Japan and worked on the refugee crisis in Myanmar by planning on providing food to the Rohingya people.

The employment rate in Africa (South Africa in specific) is something I have noticed has been declining for the youth. I hope to bring home the resources I will gain from studying and working in Japan and start a business that will provide jobs at home.

I applied to APU Ritsumeikan University in Beppu, Japan in the hopes that I can get the chance to further my educational career. At the beginning of last month I received an email that changed my life, I got 100% tuition reduction worth $50000 to study International Relations and Peace Studies.

I will only need to cover my first 2 months' rent (incl. moving-in fees) and the initial admission fee then I will be all set.

Any contribution whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. The admission fee is $2000 and accommodation for the first 2 months including deposits is $2000.

I am grateful to announce that I have already received $1000 from sponsors towards my endeavor. Even if you can't donate your support with sharing this would be very helpful.

Therefore I am kindly requesting the opportunity to utilise this scholarship, which will brighten my future. I know that if I want something I will have to work hard for it and that is why I am requesting the chance to do so.

Rewards

As a token of my appreciation I will send you a post card upon my arrival in Beppu, Japan.
