Viga Interactive has been blessed with an amazing family member Doreen Mashaba, who’s in need of your help. Doreen is a domestic worker that lives in Cosmo City with her 9-year-old son Karabo, who has been a victim of bullying at school. Karabo is in grade 3 at a government school in Cosmo City and has found himself victimized by older children in the school as well as high school students across the road from his school.

Doreen was called in by Karabo’s school teacher and principal to hear that her son was held at knifepoint in the school’s bathroom for his pocket money - he only gets R2 every day from his mom. All the principal could say was ‘sorry’ and mentioned no intention of punishing the culprits. This was when Doreen realised that Karabo’s safety is under threat. Before the incident, Karabo was robbed for his school bag and belt by the high school pupils while he was waiting for his school transport which isn’t always on time.

Karabo plays community soccer as his school doesn’t have sports. His soccer team plays matches on Saturdays, with practices during the week. Karabo attends practice after he has completed his homework and washed his lunch box. Karabo does well in Maths, English and Life Skills, he also enjoys reading and learning new things. His biggest dream is to become a pilot. Doreen said, “my biggest wish is for his dreams to come true because he deserves it. He is a good boy.”

Karabo and his mom have a close relationship, she has mentioned how they have mature conversations. “One day we were watching TV and he said that when he becomes a pilot he’s going to buy me a house but if I shout at him he won’t”, she laughed. She continued to say, “he’s very honest when he has done something wrong he tells me before I have to ask”.

Karabo is also responsible. “Last year I found out that Karabo chose to save his pocket money to spend it during the holidays when he goes to visit my sister in Pretoria”, Doreen said. She said that he takes care of his toys and when he breaks them he fixes them, he understands that his mom works very hard for him and puts him first.

Doreen has lost faith in his teachers as they have not made measures to ensure his safety and she’s decided to find another school that will be a safe environment for Karabo to reach his dreams of being a pilot. Please help us raise funds to enrol Karabo into a better school, that will further his education and keep him safe.
