My name is Gabriel and I am a Junior at Idaho State University. I double major in Health Care Administration, Social Work and a Business Minor with a GPA of 3.72. I am an extremely involved individual and any chance that I get to help in my community, I do so. I have volunteered in community activities with the Aid for Friends, the local Food Bank and helped people with developmental disabilities in my community amongst others. Here is my story; I came to the United States precisely 5 years ago legally with a student visa and I'm so blessed to have the opportunity to study in this country. Each morning I get up feeling grateful and excited about about the opportunity that lies before me to plough back my wealth of skills and expertise back to the society from which I derived it upon my graduation. I was passing my classes with distinctions and used as a good example in the class by my professors especially Professor Jennifer Attebery who is the current Chair of the English Department at my school. I was able to get a Job on campus to help me settle a few bills. Everything about my dream of a better life and career came to standstill when on August 2013, I received the tragic news that changed the entire trajectory and course of my life. Violent conflicts and religious intolerance broke out in my native Country(West African Sub-region) which targeted we the Christians minorities. Consequently, my family businesses and funds were obliterated and shattered. I had to deal with the emotional trauma of It but also the the ripple financial effects. It has been such a difficult experience and my life has never been the same ever since then. In the Spring of 2014 I couldn't afford to enroll for classes and I still owe $3,500. I was just at the verge of giving up when I spoke with an adviser that encouraged me to explore resources at my disposal. The out of State Tuition at my College is $21,000 per semester but with my good academic performance I was able to qualify for what is know as a know as the Non Resident Tuition Waiver (NRSW) which allows me to pay $4,000 a semester since I maintain an annual minimum of 3.50 GPA.This means that I all I need to pay for my remaining 4 semesters to have a bachelors degree is $25,000 including the re-reinstatement fee. I can not apply to any federal financial aid because once again I'm not a resident or citizen. The only scholarships that I can obtain are community-based scholarships that are usually worth $500-$1,000. I want to go back college and finish up my degree; I want to go to Idaho State and get the education I need in order to be successful. Please see this as an investment, invest in my education because I know that one day I'll be able to do great things with people not only in my community but nationwide. I have always been put in tough situations and I have tried not to say "why me", instead I say "try me". I know I will succeed but I need all the help I can get to accomplish this dream. I have the grades, a 3.72 GPA on a 4.0 scale. I have the leadership. And now all I need is the financial support. Anything helps, thank you so much for reading this and please help me out in anything you possibly can.
