Education for Zimbabwe!

Gutaurare its a zone located 51km away from the closest city, Mutare, from wich those 51km would be travelled on a gravel road. From the 7 villages in Gutaurare the kids have to travel a distance of between 7km to 12km in the morning and equally the same distance in the evening going back home to the closest secondary school. This means that some pupils leave their homes as early as 4:00 am and they only return back at about 20:00 pm in the evening. Due to this, some girls and boys are not able to concentrate in school due to fatigue and tiredness. The girl childs are also deprived of education for a early pregnancy which could occur as they walk to school in the most of the cases due to rapes.

Thanks to Manos Unidas, The Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, and the Lay Volunteer Capuchin Program, the first phase of PADRE PIO SECONDARY SCHOOL its almost a reality, especially for almost 2,000 children and youth, 50% of them are girls.

Education is one of the factors that most influences the progress of people and societies. In addition to providing knowledge, education enriches culture, spirit, values and everything that characterizes us as human beings. Educating children contributes to reducing poverty and promoting gender equality, and as UNICEF says: "The education of girls is fundamental for the construction of stable, democratic and economically prosperous societies."

That is why we believe that by supporting a project like PADRE PIO SECONDARY SCHOOL we are making it possible to open a world of opportunities for the children of Zimbabwe. Every little step counts!
