When we were small we remember the joy and excitement of going to the shops to buy new books, stationary, school bags, shoes, and uniforms in preparation for the new school year. We have been privileged to get a good education and reach great strides in life but unfortunately, many children do not get that opportunity. Millions of families are unable to meet the cost of books, uniforms, and other school supplies resulting in their children dropping out of school.
We have been donating books and school supplies to students from Thalawa and Siyambalaanduwa villages in Sri Lanka in December each year with the goal of helping children from less fortunate families in Sri Lanka who are struggling to get an education. Most of these children come from low-income multi-ethnic families who are limited by a household income less than $200 per month.
Last year was the first time we used social media to raise funds. Thanks to many kind and caring friends we were able to raise $1,225. Further we received offline donations and discounts on purchases from numerous other donors. We have also set up a small fund that generates about $600 per year. All of these streams produced a total of $8500 for 2017. All of the funds were used to purchase school items for the kids and we were able to donate to 319 children in 2017.
As you can imagine, the children we can reach through this effort is a small fraction of those that are in need. Education is invaluable gift and we would like to invite you to join us in this endeavor. Your donation will go towards buying school stationary and supplies for these kids. Even the smallest donation will help a less-fortunate young child stay in schools and education is a pathway to poverty alleviation. Therefore, your support would not only help a child go to school but you will also contribute towards a better future.
So please join us in this important endeavor by making a small donation at https://gogetfunding.com/education-for-less-fortunate-children-in-sri-lanka/ or by simply sharing this message with others. You will not see your name on a plaque but you will put a smile on a child’s face and feel good that you helped a child get an education.
