There is much said and known about the Beirut explosion. One particular aspect is the sector of education. 140 schools and technical vocational training centres were damaged in the explosion. They were catering to 67,000 students in a 4 km radius from the epicentre according to PWC Report in September. A third of these students need direct assistance in securing computers or tablets for online learning. A similar number of beneficiaries in vulnerable zones is also identified. We estimate that 50,000 students nationwide are directly concerned and need an immediate intervention to allow them to stay at school and pursue their education and thus fight the rapid growing school dropout rate.
In this project we would like to focus on computers and online learning. Lebanese vulnerable families are orienting their children towards early unskilled employment due to economic constraints, having severe negative consequences in the long run. The needs are enormous, while the resources and also possibilities of this project are limited. We aim to achieve as much as possible, providing the essential support for the families and access to education. We believe that this is very much needed in the current circumstances and the effects of the project could be long-lasting.
This project is being implemented in co-operation with Arc en Ciel and it is also a part of EBRD Community Initiative. EBRD Community Initiative matches the donations (terms apply).
