Education against poverty

Volunteering as a Teacher in Perú.
I'm an 18-year old student living in southwestern Sweden in a smalltown called Ulricehamn. A teacher of mine a few years changed my life, she made me value my life, made me build dreams and have hope. You know how she did that? By caring, and by helping me without giving up. I would like to do something that other people than me might benefit from. Therefore I got my mind set on Volunteering.

The country I planned going to is Perú, my aim is to stay for a period of 3 months (more if i can get the money). One good talent I have is explaining and being patient which is two very good qualities for a teacher. So that is what I will be doing during my stay in Perú, working as an English teacher in poor villages on the countryside surrounding Cusco. Alot of Perús native population lives around Cusco and they are often a majority of the poor and uneduacted ones in the society so I believe they need our help the most.

Too many locals in this country live in poverty. espically the native population and cannot afford a proper education for themselfes, least of all for their children. To me education is perhaps the most important thing except love when we grow up, so that will be my way of helping a country in need, during a long time perspective. Through proper education world-wide , eveywhere I believe we can dramatically if not totally eradicate poverty.We the western world and community have the needs, the knowledge.. I refuse to sit here comfortably in my warmed up home, driving my car, going to movies while knowing that these people wont even learn to write and read.

I feel the urge to do something, donating money every month isn't enough I want to participate by helping them with more than money, with me at the place and the time. My old teacher didn't just teach Spanish, no she taught me compassion, how important it is to care and matter to someone and that the greatest pleasure in life is helping others. That's what I want to do, I want to matter and make a difference for these children teenagers just as she did for me. I need to give something back.
