Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read about our fundraiser. My name is Ed and I currently live in Portland, Oregon, with my girlfriend of two years, Brin.
Like many people, we are struggling to make ends meet. Our rent is usually being paid late and we can just barely keep food on the table and gas in our cars. We've had to take out several payday loans in the past year just to make sure the lights stay on and we have hot showers.
The car I've been driving is a 1994 Ford Escort. It's a great car, still gets very good gas mileage, and has been very reliable since I bought it. This car also got me from my hometown of Philadelphia, PA to Portland, OR—3000 miles—without breaking down. It's still holding up, but maintenance is beginning to get costly and I honestly don't know how much longer I'll be able to rely on it. If I lose my car, I may not have transportation to my job and I will no longer be able to run errands.
Brin works hard and is very exhausted by the end of the day, so I help her out by making trips to the grocery store or anything else we need. I could borrow her car, but it's a manual transmission and I'm still learning. However, we haven't had the time to go out and practice. Besides, she needs her car for her job.
If I can find a used car in good condition that isn't too old (I'm thinking around 2005), $5000 should be enough, and I should have reliable transportation for at least a few years. Even if I reach only half of that goal, I'm sure I can find something reasonable. Anything left over will be put toward bills.
Again, thank you for reading about and considering our situation. We look forward to hearing from you, and we thank you tremendously for your support.
