Today, Baltimore Inner City young girls are struggling with various things our generation never faced at the age range of 12-14. Young girls are facing issues such as sexual assault, peer pressure, reckless sexual behavior, poor academic achievement, low self-esteem, family violence, substance abuse, truancy, and most importantly teen pregnancies. At risk youth are growing up faster than ever, and are facing pressures and risks their parents never imagined. More and more young ladies are facing their pressures and risk alone. A broken family structures and the lack of neighborhood relationships have increased the amount of unsupervised time spent by young people. As a result, youth are being raised by music, television and the worldwide internet. We are failing our youth if we allow this cycle to continue.

Background: In 2009, Arlene Asante was given a vision to start a mentoring program entitled EAGER (Enhancing Adolescent Girls for an Evolving Resolution). EAGER is a cost free program that is implemented at Baltimore Public Northeast Middle School. The goal of the EAGER program is to instill positive self images that will enable young women to be confident and successful. The EAGER program provides a comfortable environment for young girls to develop skills that will aid them in their transition from middle school to high school. Some skills included healthy problem-solving skills, communication skills, healthy decision making skills, leadership skills and listening skills. In addition, provide tools to cope with life challenges such as peer pressure, family issues, self esteem, and relationships. These skills and tools will help mold and empower young ladies to become positive role model to their peers.

Moving Forward: After 4 years of running successful at the Baltimore City public school Northeast Middle School with Principle Susan T. Baldwin. Our next goal is to expand the program to other schools in Baltimore City and provide more services to the mentees and mentors of the program. In addition, our goal is to become a non-profit organization in the state of Maryland. We believe becoming a non-profit of the state of Maryland, will allow the program to provide more services to the mentees and mentors though grant funding. Such as, organization T-shirts, field trips, and workshop materials. Also, provide uniforms, female hygiene products, school supplies and other necessities student's guardian (s) cannot afford.

Our goal is to raise $2,000 dollars, we are seeking generous people who are willing to donate to our program to reach our goals. If you are interested in helping the EAGER mentoring program DONATE TODAY!!

Remember, one dollar will help us achieve our goal.

Warm Regards,

Arlene A. Asante (Founder)
