Dyer Basketball Academy

Hello world,

My name is Calbert Dyer, I'm an ex-first division player (now 41 years old) who recently turned to coaching in the past 4 years. Now as a coach, I am seriously concerned about our upcoming generation of basketball players in country therefore I have decided I want to make and impact on the kids life and experience with the game who can hopefully fall in love with the sport the same i did 31 years ago. I want to continue impacting the game still but this time from a different angle. In Costa Rica it's all about soccer unfortunately and very little attention is directed towards the wonderful game of basketball. besides this fact and also the fact that children are not even staying physically active now a days. I want to make a difference and really stand out by working with younger children starting at the age of 4 years old (which many coaches are not doing). The plan is to get the kids prepared physically and academically ready for the game. I will be working on their motor skills and basic basketball fundamentals but where I do and will stand out is the fact that my sessions are 50% English spoken where I introduce basketball terminology and vocabulary rapidly into their minds and before they even know it, they start understanding and speaking in the universal language of the best basketball in the world (which is the USA in my opinion).

I am very excited and cant wait to get started but unfortunately I found myself financially short. I need to raise approximately $900 in order to have better equipment and other essentials most importantly I need 2 junior mini basketball hoops to make it easier for the young ones to be able to even score a basket and this way they can remain motivated and not get discouraged.

I really am reaching out because the help is much needed and what I truly want is to give the kids a chance of feeling good about themselves, so that they can at least score a basket now and again. unfortunately not many people have thought about lowering the rims to start children at these younger ages but if I am able to raise the funds to get the 2 basketball goal I will be making a taking major leap forward and will be making a great difference in these kids lives.

I am passionate about working with kids and "I love this game" ! I only want to give these younger kids the same opportunity that I had when I fell in love with this game at the age of 10 years old.
