My name is Dwayne Killian, I am 18 years old and currently in my matric year at Nico Malan High School and live in Jeffrey’s Bay, Eastern Cape.
I was born in Port Elizabeth and at the age of 3 I lost my dad and at the age of 7 I lost my mom, whom I thought at that time, were my biological parents, due to illness. I was adopted by my aunt and had to move to Jeffrey’s Bay. Due to financial reasons, my childhood was tough.
When I was 9 years old, my aunt had a brain aneurism. She was in hospital for … and the doctors said that she would never fully recover. This led to her being incapable to fulfil a normal job, which added a lot more pressure to our financial situation. I have had to work as a waiter over weekends and during school holidays at Euro Cafè in St Francis Bay to make ends meet.
A year ago, my aunt told me that my parents whom I lost when I was 3 and 7 years old, were not my biological parents and that they adopted as my real mother was not able to care for me, she was too young and not stable financially. My biological mother still lives in Port Elizabeth, but she has an aggressive cancer and only has a few more months to live.
By the good grace of our All Mighty Jesus Christ, three years ago, I was invited to church by a friend, and for the first time, I experienced the true love of God. Jesus showed me that I have nothing to be ashamed of and nothing to be angry about as His love for me, was unconditional. I fell in love with Jesus and with His church, and it has been my second home since that day.
All our problems have not disappeared, but Jesus and His Word has taught me to deal with my circumstances. He taught me how to forgive, how to let go and trust Him, how to love others and help those in need, as He has always been and will always be there to look after me.
Since I decided to give my heart to the Lord and to get baptised, my grades have improved, my relationships with my aunt, friends, family and teachers has been restored and every day I experience an inner joy that no one could ever take away from me.
I therefore wish to spend one year after I matriculate on doing God’s good work here on earth. I want to learn more about God, Jesus’s sacrifice, life and leadership within the Kingdom of God. I want to establish my identity in Christ, build a solid, Biblical foundation and allow God to set me up for a life of purpose, destiny, and significance, making an impact on any sphere of society I am called to.
Victory Gap Year is a ministry within Victory Church Jeffrey’s Bay, making a significant impact in the town, the Kouga area, and around the world.
The senior pastor, Louis Els, has always had the vision to see young men and women equipped for the challenges of life with an understanding of the Kingdom of God. In the year 2000, Victory Gap Year started as “Year of Training”; with just 10 students in a house donated to us by generous people who shared the vision. It was a humble beginning, but since then we have grown into multiple schools with diverse disciplines. Hundreds of students from around the world have come and had their lives transformed by the power of God.
Victory Church is part of a greater family of churches called Church of the Nations.

I therefore wish for your kindness in sponsorship, by means of a donation towards my dream. Any small financial blessing will be appreciated.
I require an amount of R72 000.00 for the year of 2018. This is payable to the Victory Church Jeffrey’s Bay by January 2018 latest. This amount includes lodging, food, and transport to and from outreaches as well as training material and stationary.
Kindly support my dream through your generous sponsorship and please make this Victory Gap Year with God, my reality.
Thanking you in advance.
