Michael Durisseau's Plight

**November 21, 2013 UPDATE**

Michael is home from the hospital and is completing his chemotherapy (Rituxan) as an outpatient. With the chemo treatment fighting the virus, dialysis is proving to be harder on his system than it has in the past, but he remains in good spirits and is feeling hopeful.

Thanks to everyone for the prayers and well-wishes.

Michael Durisseau became a kidney transplant recipient over 25 years ago and until a few months ago, was enjoying a full, yet modest life. Healthy living choices helped keep his transplant strong years beyond any doctor's expectation.

But as summer was coming to a close Michael started struggling. After weeks of testing doctors determined he had acquired HLH. He is, once again, in end stage renal failure, but he cannot be approved for a new transplant unless he can effectively fight the HLH. Doctors are recommending a 4-week Rituxan protocall. Each treatment comes at the price of $11,000 and is not covered by insurance.

In the meantime, Michael and his wife are at risk of losing their home. Michael is the primary income earner in his household and has been hospitalized for weeks with limited avenues for help with immediate expenses.

Our goal is to establish an emergency fund for Mr. and Mrs. Durisseau by reaching out to friends, family, or even strangers who feel led to help out with a small donation.  In the short term, we are hoping to help cover basic living expenses for the months of November and December and raise additional funds for exorbitant gas and parking expenses.

Raising $1,200 would offer immense relief to a couple that is always, always willing to help friend or family member in need.

  • Hello everyone, or those who might be following our page. I'm Frances, Michael's wife. I just wanted to say thank you for all of you who have given any amount to help us through our ordeal with the HLH, and with Michael's ESRD... You have no idea how much your love and support mean to us during this journey we have been on since Oct. We are hopeful that soon some of it will be a little bit smoother, but it's still going to be a long rough road. Michael has to remain in remission from the HLH for a minimum of a year before we can even talk about a new transplant, and even then, they may still require him to wait a little longer. Dialysis has been very difficult for him this time around. Just please keep him in your prayers. We have great faith that we will make it through all of this, and that he will be whole and well again, however long it takes. Again, thank you for any part that you have had in helping us along this road. You will never ever know how much it means to us. Frances and Michael Durisseau

  • Hello everyone...This is Frances, Michael's wife. I wanted to catch you up a bit. The past month or so things have been difficult. Michael has been having a terrible time with vomiting and not being able to eat. He's lost down to 122 lbs. They did a plethora of tests, and still haven't found an answer... But he's turned the corner and after over 6 weeks of getting weaker and sicker, he's finally started eating again. Dialysis has been going "fair". He's still having problems with his blood pressure dropping to extremely low levels...They won't let him leave until it rises. They are not sure why that is happening either. It drops to as low as 80/50 with a pulse of 120 or higher. Financially it has been very very difficult. We are still waiting on his disability to kick in. We did here that it will be about a month before we see it... We are thankful for that, BUT until then it's been so hard. We have some awesome angels who have helped us...I don't know what we would have done without them..(YOU KNOW who you are). We just take it a day at a time. If you find it in your heart to give, our hearts will be forever thankful. Hopefully after next month, things will be much easier!
