With many of our local dumpsites due to close soon, the pressure has been on to rescue as many of the “resident” cats as is possible. While one would assume that most of these animals are feral, such has not been the case; and most of these cats and kittens are now being fostered or have found “furever” homes.

In the last week, our focus has been on a large dumpsite that was reported to be housing 12 – 15 adult cats at one time. Since last winter, volunteers have been leaving food and blankets in an old shed located on the property; and many of the cats have become accustomed to having shelter and a constant supply of food. While our Rescue has wanted to help these cats, we have, nevertheless, been short of both the space and the funds to do so.

However, we found out last week that this shed is about to be torn down, leaving these animals with no food or shelter. Imagine how confusing it will be for these cats to lose the only home they have ever known! Life at the dump is a dangerous one, and there seems to be only about six adult cats left there now; meanwhile, some of the kittens born this year have also survived. After hearing the news about the shed, our volunteers set out immediately to trap as many animals as possible with the hope of providing them with a better life.
