Duke’s Emergency Surgery

Our poor doggy, Duke, had surgery on 1/9/2013.  He had an injury while playing fetch and had a full ACL tear in his left knee.  Per the doctor, he was predisposed to such an injury because of his early hip dysplasia and arthritis.  He was unable to walk on the leg, and had to have emergency surgery.  The surgeon showed us his knee movement while Duke was under and he literally had not one shred of anything holding his top and bottom knee bones in place.  Because of the severity of the injury, he had to be admitted to the hospital immediately to avoid further damage.

After three nights in the hospital, Duke was able to return home.  He will be on "bed rest" and strict confinement for the first two weeks of his recovery.   He will continue to recover over the next 6 weeks, after which he will have another 6 weeks or so of rehabilitation.  

It will be a long, difficult road - for the three of us!  I am extremely happy and grateful that he is safe, healthy and home.  However, we now have a $5,000 bill that we will need to pay off.  This does not include the yet unknown cost of his rehab.  The total cost is overwhelming, but Duke is our baby boy and we saw no other viable option than to get him treatment to save his leg and likely his life.
