BACKGROUND RATIONALE TO THE DRUG REHABILITATION AND SOCIAL SKILLS SUPPORT PROJECT
Drug abuse and addiction is a disease state of the mind which renders victims lose their power to choose anything else but drug. It’s a global menace and has destroyed lots of our productive youths worldwide. Several different situations can result into one falling victim of drug addiction and no matter that circumstance, it’s a reason enough to get people to suffering from this disease. A replica scenario is the state of some 20 clients at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital in Ghana, West Africa, who for one reason or the other are suffering from the disease of addiction and need help through drug rehabilitation to assist them into getting well and staying in recovery. The irony of the situation is that despite the willingness to giving up drugs and enrolling in rehabilitation to get their sanity restored, they genuinely do not have the requisite funds to get them through the program due to their social, economic, financial and family background.
Drug Rehabilitation and Social Support Group in collaboration with other stakeholders and the 12 Steps Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center decided to embark on this fundraiser to help raise USD 50,000.00 to assist these individuals not only in drug rehabilitation but also a social skills training center that will help train clients on skills development and operate as a local revenue generation venture to help assist future drug abuse victims who may find themselves genuinely suitable for such support.
