My name is Corey Snow. I am 22 years old. I am from a small town called Hawera in New Zealand. My whole life I never felt like I was heading in the right direction. I was always out of place and never comfortable with my decisions. Growing up in a small town doesn't leave you with many options or opportunities.
To try and find my place in New Zealand I moved to a bigger city where I tried studying and working. I still don't feel right. Then one day I picked up a pen and started writing. It was a new feeling, one that I can't describe.
Long story short, I wrote a novel. It took me over 2 1/2 years to finish and I'm very proud of myself in the result. In New Zealand there is not a lot of room for fame or money. If I were to get the book published here only a few copies would get sold and it would never see the light in a different place,
So my new dream is this. Travel to England. Let myself be heard and never return until my novel has been published.
Sounds easy right?
Here are the financial setbacks:
- Because of the student loans I needed to take while studying, I am only allowed out of the country for 6 months without interest being added. I also need to be coming up with the payments while away.
- I have no other financial support. My father was the money maker of the home but when I tured 18 I caught him cheating on my mother and once he was found out, he walked out literally leaving us with nothing. My mother had gone bankrupt a few years before ths so it is now legally hard for her to make a decent wage. She also has 3 other children to support. This is another reason why I left, to make her life easier money wise.
- To also help out my mother, I took out a credit card loan. Having gone bankrupt my mother couldn't get out a card on her own so I offered to help in any way I can. I am now left with the repayments.
- As I started saving for a trip to Europe, my car broke down. I could not afford to get it fixed and have it receive its warrant or registaration. Living in the city there are no home driveways to store the car so I left it on the street. The parking wardens had a feild day finding my car and I had a huge fine. There goes my savings.
So here I am with, what could be, the next best seller sitting in my room with no other way for it to see the world. I've worked out if I keep working and saving and paying off loans, I should have enough saved up to go and be stable within 10 years. This is not an option.
Please donate what you can. A couple of cents can go a long way. I am not asking for a lot and I am not asking for the trip to be paid for. I am asking for money to go towards reaching payments while I am away. Help a little lost boy find his way home.
I will keep you all posted on my journey and I will ensure this novel is published one way or another, even if I have to berak into the publishers office and use the machines myself (only joking).
Thank you for hearing my story and I appreciate the help.
