First let me thank you for visiting my project it means so much that you stopped to read this. there are so many great people and worthy causes here.
I am an artist/designer living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, as of three years ago I was disabled from my job due to the onset of Geniculate Neuralgia , a rare disorder that involves severe pain deep in the ear, the triggers for me are sounds and noise, meaning I spend much of my day in constant pain due to the sounds of the world around me, When I was diagnosed with this condition I was employed full time in job I enjoyed, I was thankful for the security of a paycheck and the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than myself.
Even with my 40hrs a week on the job I found the time needed to sculpt, I would work my 10hr shift then coming home to do another 6-8 in my studio, I had very long days but that was no matter as I was and am proud of the work I produced, I sold my sculpted leather at local art/craft events as well as my online Etsy shop.
As I said three years ago that all changed, I no longer have continuity of work in my trained field, the one I have worked my whole adult life or in a real world situation due to the consistently painful triggers being the sounds of the world around me. being out of the work force has been at its worst very depressing, but on the other side of that I have been blessed with the opportunity to pursue what I love, being an artist/designer. And that is what I have always seen myself as, this situation just pushed me to it sooner than I had expected.
I am a self taught sculptor/designer of leather, I hand sculpt split hide oak tanned leather into beautiful floral wearable art, I have been sculpting leather for over 13yrs, My portfolio shows the work I have created for Festival attendees, Cirque performers, Brides, Mothers to be, I design for all occasion and all age of person, I am so blessed that the people who collect my work live all over, I have pieces being worn by clients’ in several countries beside my own and it is always so exciting when one of those collecters contacts me for a new special commission, my collectors have helped me stay a float and for that I am truly appreciative. It is most important to me that I give back for all I have been given, so each year I create two signature pieces for non-profit organizations to add to their art actions.
But now it is time to take my work to the next level and that is where this fund raiser comes into play.
My goal is to branch out into the retail market, I do currently have work represented in local shops and the interest in my wholesale to retail sized pieces is high, I want to take my work to the next level step outside my backdoor and bring my Oh So Pretty Creations to a bigger market.
This fund will give me the seed money needed to replace my 13yr old computer that is failing and not compatible with the design programs I need to work efficiently, it will allow me to purchase the needed supplies and material to produce on a larger scale, bring an apprentice into the studio who is interested in learning and assisting with production and it will add to rent/utilities as I work diligently through the fall and winter to build up my product for the coming year..
I am not able to work in “the real world” but that does not mean I can not be productive.
Please help my realize my goal and dream of self sufficiency.
Please be sure to check out the work I am offering as a Thank You, I feel like it is the least I can do for your amazing generosity. And take a look at my web links so you can see even more of what my work is all about.
I hope your journey leads you to your dreams realized and may your eyes be open wide to see that you have arrived.
