Urban Farming in Towns, Squatter Camps - Wherever needed
Unemployment is extremely high as we all known. The goal of this campaign is to do a demo setup for this idea.
This will be to identify interested would-be farmers, to work with and train these farmers or teams of farmers to a point to where they can operate individually with small input from outside. (so no manager or anyhting like that, basically you'd run your own mini-farm!)
Supply and help with Startup equipment from Containers down to plants.
While working with farmers and getting everything in place, Identify and set up agreements for their produce to ensure income for bussiness and farmers.
THIS IS THE MAIN reason for this campaign.
While working with farmers and getting this all in place, Identify and set up agreements for their produce to ensure income for bussiness and farmers in poor communities, to make them independant and self-suficient.
Farming at the moment is mainly for people with farmland either bought or inherited.
This sidelines a big part of people who would like to get into farming, but do not have the means and finances or the land to do so.
Especially today because we live in a world where production of foods is not as organic as should be, and therefore sometimes our food causes the most health problems.
To have financialy viable crops, most farmers need to use an astounding amount of pesticides and weed inhibitors which in turn affects the quality of the crop that is harvested and then sold. It's not healthy for Crops or the soil or those who then buy and eat the produce.
This dream is not about reinventing the wheel.
The Dream is to help startups through training, development and funding to farm any viable Vegetables and Edible Fish such as Tilapia. Possibility of 2 Income streams
There are already companies doing same or similar in America and elsewhere in the world.
They farm in a modified 12m Container, warehouse, abandoned building etc.. and produce viable and healthy foods in this manner.
Kimbal Miusk of Square Roots is doing this in cities.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not part of his organisation.
We are far from there. It will take time to build up to where they or similar companies are.
Especially as far as having everything at the touch of a button or some app.
But we can Dream!
I have some space for now, to place first Container and get going with designing and setting up.
Then we will work from there.
South Africa is Big. With a lot of mouths to feed. Maybe this can help in a BIG way.
Instead of giving a fish, lets rather supply the rod and teach everyone to fish for themselves!
