Gamers call to arms!!
With the TI10 on the horizon (and no South African teams competing again), my group of friends and i have decided to try and host an unofficial tournament so we can all feel included in the festivities.
We're not really sure on the costs involved yet, but we've spoken to a vendor who's willing to sell us a dedicated server (so no laggy servers when we're competing), and anything left over after server setup can be used for prizes (either monitory or voucher, etc, depending on how much we actually raise).
We're hoping the format can be:
Qualifiers - Any 5 person team can enter free of charge, if you're an individual, we'll try and place you in an available team if possible.
Top 16 teams (i know its a stretch but fingers crossed) will compete in the unofficial tournament.
If there are less/only 16 teams, everyone moves up but the qualifier days will be used for skrim matches so everyone can get a feel for their competitors.
Tournament - The 16 qualifying teams will be randomly matched up and play best of 3 matches (no lower bracket unfortunately).
Finals will be best of 5.
Depending on funding we're hoping the top 8 teams will be receiving a prize.
I know there are more worthy causes to donate to out there but i feel S.A needs to be seen as well, we have some AMAZING players and i think it's finally time we get recognized (and maybe get a dedicated ranked SA server so we dont need to play with 400ping).
All dates and times to TBD.
If you're not able to donate, please feel free to message if you have anything ekse to offer (scheduling, commentators, or any advice that might help as we've never attempted anything like this before and we'd like this to be successful).
P.S I don't own any of the images used, Valve holds copy-writes to all things Dota 2 related, none of the funds will be kept, they're either for tournament setup or prizes. Anything extra will be donated to a Covid-19 related charity as this pandemic has affected many families over this short time.
