Pain was what Doreen knew best her entire life. She suffered a lot due to what you people refer to as sickle cell. Her life was never a bed of roses and we kept her constantly in oury prayers. Doreen dreamt big but most of her dreams never came true as yet because she succumbed (weeping). She was always hopeful of sailing to see another day. Whenever she was at a point of achieving some of her dreams her condition always found away of getting them delayed. She had to miss school for three years because of bad health. People would look at her sometimes with her yellow eyes and wonder what was wrong with her.

Many uttered discouraging, disturbing and terrifyingthings about her condition and the disease in general. “she will never make it to five they said when she made ten years, they thought that that’s as far as she could go, when she made it to sixteen and to twenty, they weree speechless and realize their theory didn’t work, or let's say for then.

Little did they know that it added emotional pain to her physical pain.

Her life seemed a weak. All the people’s negativity was actually nothing compared to the pain she went through as a sickler. For the rest of her life she had to be on daily

medication. Since life is dearly loved, this can be put up with. What any sickler understands most is pain, forget about the labor pains that the ladies go through during delivery it's worse that when it comes to sickle cell because the labor pains are very much bearable. Sickle cell gave us the perfect description of pain a more realistic meaning compared to the dictionary meaning. Regardless of age, you wail like a little baby when crisis sets in. It feels like all body bones have been broken or fractured. It feels so terrible that just can’t imaginatively explain the feeling.

Doreen had been taken to hospitals many a times almost unconsciously lost in pain. She could not afford any body movements.. Considering the complications that come along with the disease the leg ulcers, bone infections, body organs are at a risk of damage anytime, nerve injuries the risks are endless.

Each day in life of a sickler is lived by God’s grace. God's favor and mama's

tirelessly standing with here in the darkest of her days. There are so many of Doreens each with a different story to tell, I am so frustrated that she gave up. On 22/8/ 2011., Doreen gave up the fight

#!!! Let's help our sisters and brothers in pain out there.... celebrate this Christmas... donate..... volunteer your time and let's go visit them..
