Sadly our Beloved Nan, Beatrice Duncan Drummond Byrne passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimers on the 22nd of November.

Scottish and Brave

She was feisty, rambunctious, hilarious and above all supremely loveable. You couldn't help but smile and laugh when you were around her, she had the charm, the gift of the gab, all the hugs (and gropes) in the world and her spirit was infectious!

We watched her deteriorate for years, lose her memory, inhibitions, the ability to do normal every day things, lose the ability to dance, talk and eventually, eat and swallow. She loved dancing (and talking!). She was always a dancer and had all the moves, we shared treasured moments we will never forget.

The last year we saw a rapid decline, as every ounce of fat drained off her, it was hard to watch. especially for my mum, her only child, who has cared for her illnesses since being small, and for us Grandchildren who cared for her and sat by her every day all these years. Last week she died in my arms surrounded by her outstanding carers and her tiny but devoted family who all love her. The light in our life extinguished.

It was Nans wish to be interred with her sister, who is buried in Norfolk. Yvonne, an amazingly brave woman, incredibly close to Beatrice, who died at the age of 48 of Breast Cancer, and we only see fit that Nans wish of being reunited come true.

We live in leicester, and the entire cost of the funeral is up to my mother, Tracy, Beatrices only daughter, who is bringing up 3 children by herself and unable to work due to illness. The cost is over £4,000 already, on the basics, and we are struggling to do the one thing that matters most. Her final resting place.

All we graciously ask, is that instead of flowers at the cremation in leicester on the 16th, we receive donations to help fund the interment burial with her sister in Norfolk once we receive her ashes, and help provide a small headstone to sit alongside.

The costs for funeral expences in the UK are astonishing, and so if we can we plan to import a small flat headstone for a cheaper cost from Poland. Though the priority is the interment of the ashes.

I have written this address to this page on the invitations to the cremation ceremony. As we wish to get Nan interned with her sister elsewhere, and as we will have nowhere to lay flowers; We invite friends and family to make well received donations here, or in the donation box at the entrance to the service.

Alzheimers is a truly terrible disease and we hope that one day, no one has to go through what millions of families are experiencing right now.

Please help us fulfil Nans wish and lay in dignity and peace in Norfolk with her beloved sister Yvonne.

Thankyou
Sincerely, Bianca, (Granddaughter) and family
