Affordable and Accessible Sanitation for Women (AASW), is a global non-registered initiative that produces and distributes reusable sanitary packages and equips girls with necessary skills and knowledge to give themselves and their communities get access to menstrual hygiene. AASW also uses various social platforms to spread awareness about menstruation in the goal of breaking the taboo and social stigma surrounding menstruation as a topic. Up to date, AASW has given access to over 650 girls and has had over 50, 000 engagements on our social media platforms. AASW currently has 7-youth led team in 6 different countries, namely; Kenya, India, Pakistan, Tanzania, UAE and Nigeria.
As part of our current projects, AASW Mombasa is a student-led team is currently working with 25 girls at Unity School and 490 girls at St. Celestino Nyangubo Girls Secondary School to give them access to menstrual hygiene. AASW have also partnered up with Tunaweza Women with Disabilities to produce and develop the reusable sanitary packages we produce. Whereas AASW Dar is a youth led team that is working to give 250 girls at Kigamboni Secondary School access to menstrual hygiene.
