UPDATE:

Fundraising has been finished on January 18, 2020.

Due to inability to raise the target amount, only bottles of water and a few canned goods were distributed as donations.

Special thanks to Mrs. Tamaoki and Ms. Hayashi for donating. Updates and proofs were properly sent to the backers.

If there will be further need, we'll open this Fundraising again but as of now, it's already been done.

One of the world's "lowest and deadliest" volcanoes, Taal Volcano has been spewing ash and lava and has forced thousands of residents to evacuate since January 12, 2020.

The volcano has not erupted since 1977, a "mild" phreatic event — a steam-driven eruption that occurs when magma heats ground or surface water — that took place decades after a violent eruption killed more than a thousand people. The Taal erupted 33 times between 1572 and 1977, according to PHIVOLCS.

The types of eruption varied from phreatic, phreatomagmatic (an interaction between magma and water resulting in the ejection of steam and pyroclastic fragments), and strombolian (the ejection of lava from the summit crater), and occurred at different sites in the volcano system.

The Taal has spewed ashes from the volcano up to 900 miles, even reached Metro Manila (metropolis), while mud-fall was experienced within 15 km radius from the volcano.

New fissures or cracks were observed in Sinisian, Mahabang Dahilig, Dayapan, Palanas, Sangalang, Poblacion, Lemery; Pansipit, Agoncillo; Poblacion 1, Poblacion 2, Poblacion 3, Poblacion 5, Talisay and Poblacion, San Nicolas . A fissure was also documented across the road connecting Agoncillo to Laurel, Batangas. This fissuring is reminiscent of the 1911 Taal eruption, which culminated in a catastrophic explosive eruption.

The earthquake swarm continues; 49 volcanic earthquakes in the Batangas/Cavite region from January 14 morning alone. 7 of those earthquakes were Intensity II to IV. Since the eruption began there has been nearly 350 earthquakes, with the most powerful registering at magnitude 4.1.

The earthquake swarm coupled with increasing fissuring on the caldera probably signifies continuous magma intrusion upwards towards the surface, leading to further eruptions. Alert Level 4 still remains in effect: a hazardous explosive eruption is possible within hours to days. A hazardous explosive eruption could cause pycroclastic flows/surges, base flows and volcanic tsunami in the crater lake; threatening a 14+ km danger zone that is home to ~2-million people.

Currently, the evacuated citizens are in need of the following:

  • For kids: Milk, ‪Diaper, Wipes
  • ‪For adults: ‪Toiletries, Food, Face masks, Sleeping mat, Underwear, ‪Sanitary pads, ‪Drinking water, ‪Medicine/first aid kit

‪This crowdfunding is aiming to provide at least Diapers, Wipes, Face Masks, Drinking Water & easy to open Canned Goods to the evacuees. It is aimed to be collected by January 18, 2020 which will be used to buy the mentioned goods and deliver them to the evacuation areas in Batangas and South Cavite.

We truly appreciate your aid and donations. This will help our country-men a lot.
