Ride for Christmas
Today I would like to introduce you to a special project that will happen this November. But before we start with this, I would like to introduce myself to you: My Name is Daniel and I am the Director at Tamar Center in Pattaya, Thailand (www.tamarcenter.org ). The goal of Tamar Center is to offer hope, healing and a new life to the more than 35000 prostitutes that work in the bars of Pattaya City.
The Tamar Center is working in many different ways to reach the women in the bars: Three nights per week teams from Tamar Center are going into the bars to built relationships with the women, we offer free English Classes for the women and have a House of Peace in the middle of the red-light district where the women can come, rest, sleep and receive help and counseling. All women that are willing to leave the life of prostitution are welcome to move into housing that we provide for them and we will employ each of them at Tamar Center. Right now, we have space to house up to 35 women with their children and we also have a nursery where the children can stay during the day. We also run a couple of businesses in which the women can learn a trade: A Restaurant and Bakery, a Hair Salon in the red-light district that we also use as an Outreach Center and we produce handmade cards and jewelry as well as scarfs and bags. You can find more information about the products that we offer here: www.tamarproducts.com . When the women first come to join us, we offer them a three-month long vocational and life training. During these three months they can choose one of the jobs that have and get a basic training in it. We also offer counseling and bible based life training, training on finances and many more as well as a lot of fellowship and fun times. This training really helps the women to transition from a life of prostitution to a normal life. But even after that training is finished we continue with weekly group counseling, individual counseling, further job training and many other things.
Every year we have many special opportunities to reach out to the women that are still trapped in the industry with the good news of Christmas. We have a big Christmas Party with the women that stay with us, a bigger evangelistic Christmas Party in the red-light district, a Christmas Dinner, small gifts for the women that we are in contact with, special activities and promotions in our businesses, we distribute special Christmas tracts, comics and bible parts as well as small gifts in the different red-light areas of Pattaya and give a bonus to our employees so that they can go home and visit their families. Christmas in Thailand is a perfect opportunity to share the good news of Jesus coming to earth. Thailand is an almost complete Buddhist nation and hardly anyone has any idea what the real meaning of Christmas is. Our Goal is to reach as many women as possible with the good news of Christmas.
As you can imagine all this costs money. Every year we have costs of about 5800 USD for the different Christmas activities. To raise the funds for this year Christmas I had a special idea: Since a couple of years ago I am a fervent cyclist – it started with my Mountain Bike but since last year I switched to Road Biking. Every morning I cycle a little more than 30 kilometers here in Pattaya to stay fit. For a couple of years already I had the dream to once cycle through Thailand from top to bottom. And now I want to combine my hobby with the need for Christmas sponsors: From the 18th to the 26th of November I plan to cycle from Bangkok to Phuket. That is a distance of around 820 kilometers. I am planning to do this in 8 days of cycling with a rest day in the middle and will join a group of other cyclists as that is a safer and more fun way to do it, than to do it on my own.
And this is where you come in: I am looking for people that would be interested to sponsor this cycling tour. For example, if I could raise 7 USD for each kilometer that I cycle we would have raised the complete costs for the Tamar Christmas programs.
Could you imagine taking part in this project? You could support one, five, ten or twenty kilometers or just give a one-time donation towards the project – whatever you prefer.
During the trip I will write daily updates and after Christmas you will also get a detailed report about how the money was used in the different Christmas activities. If more money than the needed 5800 USD should be collected a part of the extra money will be used for the costs of the trip and the other part for general Tamar expenses. If not all the money comes in, I will finance the complete costs of the trip myself.
So, here is my challenge for you: Would you be willing to support the Christmas Outreaches of Tamar Center through this Cycling Tour? You will make a big difference in the lives of the women and on top of that it would make me very happy! 😊

Thank you very much for reading about this project and for your interest. I pray that we can raise all the needed money in order to offer a Christmas of Hope to the Bargirls in Pattaya.
