Donate to the school children in Iquitos

Good afternoon,

My name is Jennifer and on June 19th, 2013 I will be making my first trip to Iquitos Peru.  My trip began as a mere vacation.  I wanted to see the Amazon and found a great research facility which offers Amazon expeditions.  After doing much research of the surrounding jungle villages and the main town of Iquitos, I discovered that poverty is high on the rise in this area.  Here are some facts which broke my heart about the area as well as Peru in general:

• The United Nations reports that 70% of the general Peruvian population is under 25 years of age.
• of 3.8 million people reported to live in poverty in Latin America, 2.1 million are CHILDREN
• Thousands of children live below the pverty line, having little to no access to EDUCATION, FOOD, and repeat the viscous cycle their parents edure. 

The Peruvian government acknowledges that there is a high issue with child tourism sex crimes. They also state these issues are in the northern area of Peru such as IQUITOS and the AMAZON RAINFOREST areas.  Many children run the streets, begging for rood, selling home made crafts for their families, and thus NEVER get an EDUCATION.

The children who do make it to school need your help! My goal is to put together school packs for the children in a local jungle village in the amazon.  While I would liek to get every school the same treatment, it takes one step at a time.  The schools teachers and students are very humble when they receive donations which the children can utilize to better and enrich their education.  My goal is to make over 250 school packs to distribute to schools in a local village.  

Each school pack will include the following:

• pencil pack holder- as shown in the picture
• 2 erasers
• pack of crayons
• pack of colored pencils
• two writing pencils
• pack of stickets
• mini composition notebook
• small toy for enrichment

The estimated cost for each school pack will roughly be around $8.00 USD.

I further would like to get childens t-shirts for the kids, since poverty is heavy in this area.  I would like to purchase sizes Small Medium Large and Extra Large childrens tops of a solid color.  This will eliminate any child not getting a specific color they want.  I am thinking Green or Blue in color. The shirt cost is unknown as this time however I am anticipating $10.00 USD per shirt

All monies donated will be accounted for and availabe for any doner to see.  Any amount left over will be donated to purchase school books in the local village of Iquitos.
