As a result of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, many South African children live in households with sick or dying parents; it is widespread to find children in particular girls taking on the adult role of looking after their dying parent and younger siblings, doing child labour to pay for health costs of the dying parent or to buy food for family, often causing them to drop out of school. Usually in such a scenario when the parent dies they leave behind a child-headed household. This is what is also happening in a small township of Clarens (Kgubetswana) in South Africa in Free State. Phaphama Youth Development is working very hard to empower and support such families and children through our various activities.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

You can be part of the solution!! We would love you to partner with us to save the next generation from the devastating effects of AIDS. Just small acts from individuals will actually change lives and will restore hope in these seemingly hopeless situations.

Perhaps you - as an individual or in a group or church – would consider sponsoring a child headed household to ensure that they have the education, medication, specific nutrition, shelter and care that they require to develop into responsible adults that are able to contribute to their society.

  • Businesses : Monthly debit order to R 500 or R 1000
  • Individuals: Monthly debit order of R 100 or R 250

Sponsoring not for you? Perhaps you would be willing to provide groceries for a home, or make a one-off gift that will enable us to maintain the upkeep of the homes?
