Donate now! Vulnerable students at risk of missing college education.

Education is a universal human right as it is a catalyst for the development of individuals, communities and society as a whole. Many youth in Kenya desire and qualify for higher education and yet not all access this right due to financial constraints at the household level. A significant cause of this is limited financial resources.

Ipsos SPEC Barometer, 1st quarter 2018 survey revealed that: 3% percent of Kenyan households earn between $400 and $550 per month, 24% of Kenyan households earn between $100 to $250 and 10% percent earns between $250 to $ 400 per month. This income is meant to provide for a household’s needs and therein lies the challenge for most families seeking to educate their children.

With the ever increasing cost of living, education is likely to be left out in the household budget as compared to other basic needs such as food and shelter. This could mean the lost opportunity for children or youth in such households to attain quality education. In some instances, children/youth are forced to work instead of going to school so as to contribute to the family’s earnings.Education becomes otherwise unattainable without additional financial support and resources.

Whereas education is free at public schools at primary school level and subsidized at public secondary schools, this is not provided at university/college level. It is no wonder that university/college education becomes almost unattainable for many bright and deserving youth.

Tuendelee Foundation is playing its part in supporting needy and bright youths to attain higher learning qualifications. We have beneficiaries who are pursuing finance programs in higher learning institutions in Kenya. Our mission is a society that progresses through education.

Our beneficiaries have faced and continue to face immense obstacles in their pursuit of education and a better life. Vera Adhiambo is one of them. She is a third year student at the University of Nairobi in the Bachelor of commerce undergraduate program.

Having lost her father at the age of 6, her mother assumed all responsibilities for raising and educating her and her younger brother. Her prospects dimmed further when her mother also passed away in 2015. She and her young brother were taken in by relatives however resources are still limited to support both of them adequately. Vera now fends for her brother and she shares the meager resources she gets between the food and education needs for her brother and herself. Not an easy arithmetic to do!

Her story echoes and resonates with those of the other beneficiaries. Some have both parents, however resources are limited to provide for education for all the children. Theirs is a story of adversity and potential competing for their destiny. Tuendelee Foundation has been providing scholarship for tuition fee, upkeep and examination fees for the beneficiaries in the program.

With your giving, Tuendelee Foundation will support the beneficiaries’ academic aspirations. Your giving empowers and secures the future of a young person. You will be making the world a better place.

Ensuring that a young person attains quality education means they improve their quality of life and are able to contribute to their community and national development. It also provides them a chance to give back and uplift another person in the community in the same way they benefited.

So join us in achieving progress in society through education. We are looking for USD 20,000 to cover the educational needs of 4 (four) beneficiaries in 2020. This can be achieved by having 200 people contribute $ 100 towards Tuendelee Foundation education fund. This will cover tuition, upkeep and education fees for four of our beneficiaries. You may also adopt one of the beneficiaries. What this means is that you will fund their education through an annual, monthly or quarterly donation.

You are also welcome to make a one time donation of any amount you wish. Our 2019 donor report is also available on our website: www.tuendelee.org and you may read through for more information on Tuendelee Foundation impact, financial management, beneficiary profiles and donation options.
