A couple of years ago a shocking video went viral back in my country. It showed a few adolescents torturing a horse in a hidden forest. That horse was in great pain and was extremely weak after shedding an enormous amount of blood. Those youngsters were laughing and having fun. That video made the headlines for a few days and people were outraged.

They found it unacceptable that animals could be tortured that away. This was the topic of many debates amongst adults for a few weeks but then what? Nothing. Absolutely NOTHING. Nobody came forward to say: "We've got to stop this now!" After all this talk, no legislation was passed, no organization took to fight the cause of the unfair treatment of animals. The truth is, in a country where some people are still fighting for their rights few have time to stop to listen to the plight of the animals. But this shouldn't be so. Every pain, every suffering counts! Whether that pain is coming from individuals or from animals. Unfortunately, back in my country, horses still suffer ill-treatment and die of pitiful deaths after they have been tortured and inhumanely put to work for the popular horse-racing events. Nobody is willing to make a change because these events of course, bring in so much money.

The Project

Back then, when that video came out I was still a kid myself and I couldn't really do much but it has definitely marked me. Today, I want to act and to make a difference. Indeed, I plan to go to on a Volunteering Project at the 'Eden Ranch' in the Dominican Republic next summer and learn about the skills behind natural and humane horsemanship. The mentors show you how to really care for horses, how to train them in the most respectful and humane way. The horses at the 'Eden Ranch' roam free across vast open areas in nature. They are loved and much cared for.

What I will do afterwards

This project will last for a month after which I will go back to my country and only then will the real work start. I want to bring back the skills and knowledge I would have learnt at the 'Eden Ranch' and meet with those who are willing to makes a difference; make an appeal to the concerned organizations that have been silent till now and work to improve the treatment of horses in my country.

With all the knowledge I would have learnt, I also intend to teach youngsters the importance of respecting animals and their rights. For this to be possible, I plan to take many live footages and pictures of my time abroad on the project, to create a presentation and to go to various schools to give talks and conferences on the subject. I genuinely hope that this way I will be able to raise CONCRETE awareness and that this will lead to positive CHANGE.

Unfortunately, I lack a lot of resources to make this project become a reality. I would genuinely appreciate if you could contribute and help me raise money. This is not only my fight. It is our fight and together we can definitely make this happen!

This is all in the memory of that horse that was turtured in the video... so that its death helps to create a difference for other animals...
