Vietnam Residential Property Purchase

Purchase and renovation of select absolute riverfront residential property on Hau River, Soc Trang, Vietnam. See photos.

Excellent existing house (see photos), but will renovate to modern American/Australian/European standards.

These funds will be used for purchase, and relatively minor but important renovations to make house much more livable and sustainable, as normal Vietnamese house are missing much of what are considered usual in houses in Australia, America, and Europe, eg, HWS, oven.

Also we will make a considerable, but not overly expensive, effort to make the house more sustainable, eg, solar HWS, solar window film treatment, ceiling radiant heat insulation, solar chimney, and similar.

Although $US45,000 is not a lot of money, it is sufficient to purchase this land and house on the river, and do these important enhancements.

The land size of this block, 637m2 in total, is actually very big for Vietnam, where block sizes can go down 80m2 or even less, and 100-120m2 is considered fairly normal. Plenty of room to grow vegetables and fruit, and have chickens, and possibly even goats.

As well as being directly on the Hau river, this property is not too far away from a proposed major bridge over the river that will make the journey from here and nearby major city Soc Trang to Saigon much faster and easier. And is just 27km to/from the city of Soc Trang.

Although I think it is a very attractive investment now and in future, personally, I need it more for my wife than myself because my main/only worry now is that because I have no assets or savings now, if something happens to me, my dear wife will have no home, no savings, and no job, and will have to live on family and charity (because there is no social welfare net here). And all I have now is my single aged pension which will of course just stop if I die.

And I did not come to this position from laziness: for all my life I worked very hard (for past 20 years about 70 hours per week six days per week (and Sunday I go to church); but somehow my previous two wives ended up with everything.

Which is one of the reasons I moved to Vietnam - it is almost impossible to survive on on a single aged pension in Australia if you don't own your house and have other assets. The other reason is that, for some somewhat inexplicable reason, I simply liked Vietnam so much in my previous visits with previous wife

And so now finally when I have a (Vietnamese) wife who adores me and loves me so much and so unselfishly, I now have so little to give her, not even a small house to live in, even at these minuscule prices, no nice holidays overseas, not even a car, or even a new bike.
