Campaign Story
In March the 3rd 2019 I will be running a 250 km Ultramarathon across New Zealand’s South Island.

I have decided to dedicate this marathon to all those children affected by Neuroblastoma cancer. All the money raised will be directly given to the Italian Organization dedicated to the fight against Neuroblastoma which finance and support the scientific research to find a cure to treat Neuroblastoma and paediatric cancers.

Neuroblastoma
Neuroblastoma is a very aggressive form of paediatric cancer. In the most severe cases (skeletal and
marrow metastases) the survival is lower than 20%.
It is also considered to be the first cause of death during the preschool years.
Why studying Neuroblastoma?
Neuroblastoma is considered by the scientific world to be of particular importance due to the rarity
and complex nature that links it to all types of cancers in children, as well as some of the most
common types in adults. Finding a cure to treat Neuroblastoma would mean finding a cure for all
paediatric cancers.
Our mission: finding a cure for all children suffering from cancer
The Italian Organization dedicated to the fight against Neuroblastoma is a no profit organization
born in 1993 at the Istituto G. Gaslini in Genoa, when a group of parents and oncologists decided to
join forces to support the scientific research for Neuroblastoma and paediatric brain tumours.
On the 26 th of April 1994, the Italian Organization dedicated to the fight against Neuroblastoma has
been officially recognized by the Italian Republic and the Ministry of Health as a living legal entity.
Since 2007, the Organization is officially part of the Italian Institute for Donations (IID) thanks to its
full transparency in funds raising initiatives.
Today, the Italian Organization dedicated to the fight against Neuroblastoma counts more than
120.000 supporters and is actively engaged throughout Italy.
Organization & Foundation: together is better
While Italian Organization dedicated to the fight against Neuroblastoma and Italian Foundation
dedicated to the fight against Neuroblastoma are strictly correlated, they are independent entities.
The Organization supports the Foundation which directly finances the research.
The Foundation was established in 1998.
After being officially recognized and legally recognized as No-profit entity, the Foundation has been
classified as Official Entity for the scientific research in the MIUR (Italian Ministry for Education,
University and Research).
Since 1993, we have been taking many steps ahead in the scientific research, trying to understand
what is the trigger of Neuroblastoma. We have been able to guarantee a higher chance for a correct
diagnosis and a modern and personalized overview of the treatment protocol.
However, even today, the most aggressive form of Neuroblastoma defeats a quarter of the
children who suffer from this form of cancer.
In 24 years, we have been able to raise around 20 million Euros to support the scientific research in
the most prestigious Centre of research in Italy, without the contribution of Public Institutions:
- Every year we support contracts for over 22 researchers.
- We have brought to life an ambitious project of research about Neuroblastoma, involving all
excellent national centres for treatment and talents
The aim is to find a winning treatment with:
- The stimulation of the immune system of children suffering from Neuroblastoma, to make it
stronger and able to fight against the cancer
- The experimentation of innovative and effective medicines to treat Neuroblastoma without
damaging the body of the children
