The West Texas Music Association and the Friends of the Ector Theatre are working together to raise $2500.00 to purchase lightbulbs for our theatre. Each bulb is valued at approximately $25 and we need 100 bulbs. We currently only have 17 working lights. If you have ever been to a theatre, you know the importance in 'dimming the lights' when a show is about to start. It creates drama and gives the audience a sense of excitement for what they are about to see. The lighting on stage adds so much to the show. It has the ability to really draw the audience into the performance and lights even help the performers. With our 17 lights, we can barely light the seating so that people can get to their seats! There are many repairs that need to be done, but the lighting is the primary concern because of city building codes. We don't want our theatre to be closed.

The Ector Theatre and the WTMA work with local artists, bands, and school arts programs to provide a larger "professional' venue in the downtown area. They promote these performers in order to encourage them to continue to follow thier dreams no matter what they may be. The WTMA works with amatuer song writers and performers to TEACH them the skills needed to suceed. This isn't just a venue, it is a learning experience. As the saying goes, "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime."

Feel free to check out the organization websites to be assured your donations are going to a good cause. Thanks a bunch. If you contact the WTMA directly, donations are tax deductible.
