PRESERVING

A project by Shafeeq Alsadi & Mårten Hillbom

Together we have started a project that means a lot to us and that we are very hopeful about.

We want to create an archive for Palestinian music and culture in the form of a website so that it is possible to access the material from anywhere in the world. This will also be an easy tool for teachers and schools to use in their education when teaching about the Palestinian culture. The material will be gathered from local cultural organisations, musicians and sources of already documented material.

With our two nationalities, we hope to create strong connections between musicians, organisers and schools in Palestine and Sweden. We believe that these connections are very important and that they will spur more projects and collaborations on the international stage.

Mårten will travel to Palestine between 22nd of July - 11th of August.

We intend to document the project by making a short film during the weeks that Mårten will stay in Palestine. Another reason for Mårten to travel to Palestine is so that we can plan for the future of this project.

We ask for your support of this project. For Mårten to travel to Palestine and for us both to be able to travel around the West Bank in Palestine, we need help with the funding. These travels will enable us to visit musicians, schools, organisations and people who might want to share their music with us.

Travel will be our biggest expense and any excess money from this crowdfunding will go directly to the music programs in Palestinian refugee camps.

Thank you for your time and we can’t wait to share this project with all of you!

  • I'm so happy to see this project taking place. I travelled to Palestine with Open House Ensemble from Australia in 2016 as part of The Palestine Peace Festival run by The Choir of London and we shared community music with the Palestinian people. Thank you for your dreaming and perseverance in such a difficult time to try and bring hope and musical collaboration to this troubled part of the world.
