My name is Jessica and I have been married to Dj for 5 years and been together for 10 years this July. We have three beautiful children ages 6, 3, and 5 months. Dj went to the hospital on March 27, 2014 with severe abdominal pain, they perfomed several tests including a CAT scan that revealed his spleen was enlarged and blood clots were present. Futher testing confirmed that DJ had a bactieral infection in his heart called Endocarditis. It had attached itself onto his aortic valve that we were informed that day that he also had a congential heart defect called bicuspid valve. The valve defect allows blood to go back through the valve when it shouldn't due to having two flaps instead of three. Because the infection attached itself to this particular valve it was sending the bacteria in the form of blood clots down through his body. One landed in his spleen and the other landed in his foot. These caused extreme pain and swelling in those areas. The doctors put him on an aggressive antibiotic treatment to clean out the bacteria before it sends blood clots up his brain that would have caused a stroke or possible death. After the infection is cleared he will then have to have open heart surgery to replace the defective valve. He unfortunatley will not be able to leave the hospital until after the heart surgery is performed. Dj was scheduled for the heart surgery on April 4th, 2014 but the doctors came in on the 1st and canceled the surgery. Dj now has to have oral surgery to clean out any possible vessels for future infections. We are now looking at up to a month of hospital stay and an addtional two months of recovery at home unable to work. Unfortunatley DJ was not insured when he went in to the hospital but was covered beginning the 1st of April. The first 5 days of his stay will be at full cost to us. We are asking for whatever help we can get for the cost of DJs care and also to help us as a family with the cost of living during this difficult time with the loss of an income. The new insurance bill that we are now resposible for is $800 per month. We do not qualify for subsidiary because my work offers insurance to me as an employee. With our new medical insurance bill and all of our other bills to include gas heat, utilities, rent, car payment, car insurance, food, and gas we are going be short more often than not. I am doing everything I can by working as much as I can and as often as I can but I still need to take care of our three children and spend time with my husband that I can not go one day without seeing. We appreciate anything that is donated and we even if you are unable to donate sending good thoughts is plenty. Thank you in advance there will be no words or actions that can show how much we love and appreciate all that has stepped in and helped us.
