Campaign Story
We hope to be able to deliver hygiene supplies to the desperate migrants in Calais to at least try and help and support them whilst they are stranded in limbo. They really do have very little and as humans we need to look out for each other and help where we can.
Hopefully we can raise enough money to fund our own mission to Calais to take supplies such as soap, toothbrushes, clean water and sanitary towels. This is not a huge charity with massive over heads, I will be driving there in my own car to personally hand over these supplies.
You might wonder why we are doing this? Well, as I'm sure you're all aware due to the recent spike in media coverage, the current situation for refugees living in 'The Jungle' in Calais is completely horrendous, and only stands to conintue and worsen. The latest update from volunteers on the ground estimates there are as many as 3000 migrants currently living in "The Jungle" or squats around Calais. There is a huge shortage of warm clothing, hygeine products, food and much needed medical aid.
Whilst our government, despite causing most of the dangers and horrors that many of these migrants are fleeing, refuses to help and respect their human rights, we feel we need to help provide the aid and support our government is refusing to give. We are strong believers that no human being can be illegal, and every person has the right to be safe, with secure shelter and access to food and essential medical care.
Several people have died in recent months attempting to make the dangerous crossing into Britain. Some migrants are even resorting to trying to swim across the Channel in order to make it to England. Many of those who survive are often injured and traumatised with no access to medical care.
Both French and British governments are failing to provide support to the people in need.
Asylum is a human right. Britain needs to take its fair share of refugees, especially considering its military interventions in the regions many of these people are fleeing, as well as the British government's part in plunging many of these countries into great poverty, and helping to fund the terror campaigns by some of the countries dictatorships.
As little as £2 will help us create a "hygeine" bag, asked for from "Doctors of the World" who are currently working on the ground in Calais providing essential care.
- £5 will help us buy much needed sleeping bag for the migrants to keep warm at night
Whilst cash donations are very appreciated, if you can have any physical donations you can make, this would also be great. There is a long list of essential items needed at the camps, briefly, these are:
- basic hygeine products (especially women's sanitary products)
- basic cleaning products
- clothing, shoes, jackets, socks and underwear
- tents, sleeping bags, pillows, sleeping mats, tarpaulins
- basic first aid kids
- none perishable foods (rice, lentils, etc)
- cameras (there is a big problem with French police currently taking and/or destroying cameras when used to film their violence towards migrants), mobile phones (with SIM cards and chargers
