Seeing the recent devastation of the Seroja cyclone on the houses of the indigenous weaver community in Savu deeply saddened me. Savu is a small isolated island in the Nusa Tenggara Timur Province of Indonesia and located between Sumba and Timor.
It is my hope that with your help we can swiftly send them building materials and an electrical generator to rebuild their community, as they have no materials available to them on the island. Your generosity could get them through the hardship of the quadruple tragedy they are suffering: a cyclone, a failed harvest, the pandemic and swine flu.
Without shelter, electricity, economic prospects nor immediate help in sight, this isolated community desperately needs your help.
Please consider donating to a community in need.
All donations big or small would have a tremendous impact.
All proceeds will go directly to the community and will be overseen and coordinated by Savu’s longtime benefactor, Mrs. Genevieve Duggan, together with the Tewuni Rai Association and local patrons that are already helping to organise the logistics.
Any donation of $1,035 (IDR 15 Million) will be rewarded with a hand woven scarf with exclusive and historical patterns obtained with natural dyes and made by the skillful weavers of the group Tewuni Rai of Savu.
with the mention: "disaster relief - Savu House rebuild", because they would love to thank you personally for your contribution and keep you updated on the progress of the relief efforts.
