NTHUSE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT FOR ADULT YOUTH WITH DISABILITIES AND FROM PREVIOUSLY DISADVANTAGED BACKGROUNDS

Nthuse is a sesotho word meaning "help" our primary aim is to help and asisst ALL individuals from disadvantaged communities in achieving a high standard of education and becoming leaders of tomorrow.

Major strides have been made in the field of youth development.  However, youth who finishes high school and do not pursue graduation credentials, do not go onto college or vocational school have not cecesssarily benefited from the recent advances.

These educationally disadvantaged older youths have frequently been overlooked by policymakers and practitioners designing programs and services for young people.  Educationally disadvantaged older youths face a unique set of challenges and reisks as they move into adulthood.  Accordingly, Nthuse Foundation has identified strageties that can enhance the development and success of at-risk youth who are making the transition into adulthood and into the world of employment.

Our current students are students with disabilities and from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. They have also battled at school and have been labelled as "problem children with no future!!!" We have taken these students, who otherwise would never have been given any opportunity in life, and have put them on courses which will enable them to grow and reach their full potential.

Our students disabilities vary and include learning, Psychiatric, sensory, neurological and physical. The future of these students depend on funding to help us build a pipeline of successful youths with disabilities and previously disavantaged backgrounds. They have the potential to become our leaders of tomorrow.

Unemployment and lack of economic prospects of the urban youth are pushing many of them into criminal acts, excessive alcohol and drug abuse, and also in many cases, resulting in processes of socail or political violence.  Long -term unemployment leads young people in a process of marginalization and social exclusion.  The sustained high retes of long term youth unemployment have a number of negative effects on societies.

THe functional skills Nthuse Foundation has designed will intoroduce the adult youth to the rapidly changing world of work and equips them with the necessary skills they need to find gainful employment.

The Nthuse Foundation funs fully accredited academic courses  like Finance, Human resources, General office admin, Journalism, Graphic design, Tourism and we also look at extending opportunities to our students to include entrepreneurial programmes such as haridressing, electrician, plumbing and other skills specific courses which will enable them to start and build their own businessess - thereby contributing to growing South Africa's young entrepreneurs.  An opportunity that would have otherwise not been possible, without funding.

In order to achieve all of this, Nthuse Foundation has set an organizational structure that is composed of experts in the training industry as well as previously disadvantaged members who can relate to the needs of our audience.  All skills and training programs provided by the Nthuse Foundation have been accredited by the government Body FASSET SETA and other relevant prfessional bodies.

Nthuse foundation is a non-profit organisation whose aim is to source funds and support charitable activities towards skills development and disability awareness.
