Diesel The Rig

Diesel is a rescued boy that came in with a Shetland Pony and 4 donkeys. All our boys get gelded, but it was confirmed that Diesel is a rig. Needless to say, we have a major problem on our hands. Our normal equine vet cannot geld him, he needs to go to Onderstepoort Equine Clinic for a bigger operation to remove the retained testicle. Diesel has come so far, since we rescued him and his friends. 09 July 2019 they arrived, underweight, no hoof care, no dentals ever and scared of humans. 21 September 2019 Diesel got terribly sick with displacement (twist of his gut). The vet suggested euthanasia, but after discussing all the options we decided to take a “gamble” if by the following day he is not better or should he get worse we will euthanize, but we were going to fight with him and for him. Low and behold 18 hours in Diesel “turned the corner” and we were in the clear. Diesel has grown to love his herd and started to trust certain humans, he is an amazing boy that has been let down by humans’ time and time again. I (founder of The 9^th Day Rescue, Rehabilitation & Rehoming Centre) simply cannot give up on this boy now. The vet and many other horse people suggested euthanasia, but how can I - just because he is a rig. I understand it is a lot of money for a rescue centre to spend on only one horse. I am hoping that there’s animal lovers and horse lovers out there that can understand why I cannot simply euthanize him and that together we will raise enough funds to get Diesel gelded.
