DIEPSLOOT COVID-19 HUNGER CRISIS

With US$ 50 / 47 EUR we will be able to support 1 family for 1 month. The more money raised the more families we will be able to help!

We are Indumiso Childcare, a South African NPO whose main aim is to empower the community through early childcare Education. However, due to the current situation income activities in the inner city have practically stopped. Despite the government's measures, it can't mitigate a situation to this sort within the community. It is the moment to get together to support the community push through these difficult moments and for this we need your help!

Soldiers Enforcing the Lock-down in Diepsloot

PURPOSE

Diepsloot is a densely populated township in the north of Johannesburg. Law and order is extremely bad here, Diepsloot is among the largest slums in Africa, is known for being a highly-populated area, with extreme poverty and unsanitary living conditions. At Indumiso Childcare we do our very best to show the true colors of Diepsloot through a positive narrative of hope, effort and talent. Sadly, the current COVID-19 crisis will expose us to very delicate situations menacing basic needs to survive. The COVID-19 situation has interfered with their daily normal activities and we expected it to get worse. The government has introduced a total lock-down and tension is increasing. Most of the Diepsloot community members live on a hand-to-mouth basis. The Government total lock-down in South Africa has caused a huge food security problem here in Diepsloot.

OBJECTIVE

This is why we want to support 100 families for a month with a "BASIC NEEDS PACK" in Diepsloot Ext 1. With 47 EUR/ US$50 we can support 1 family for an entire month, the more we fund-raise the more support we will be able to give.

HOW IT WILL WORK

Our team comprised of more than 20 young activists and community members will be in charge of the entire process: buying, packaging, and distribution. Once the families are identified our team will take the items to identified families households, we will discourage gatherings for safety precautions. We will purchase and distribute to 10 families each day to avoid stocking issues. We will keep a database to monitor the families we reach with the Basic Needs Pack. Furthermore, the packaging will include an informative print with instructions on how to prevent COVID-19.
