Campaign Story
Devin Finely was an athlete up until Sunday April 21st 2013. He has loved exercise since a very young age. Devin loves swimming, lifting weights, bodybuilding, and being active any chance he has. At 28 years young and an exterior body of complete health this is a complete shock. He was 2 weeks out from his 7th bodybuilding show at the Emerald Cup 2013.
He was admitted to the hospital with chest pains, shortness of breathe, and abdominal pain. We found out shortly after that Devin was experiencing heart failure, acute liver failure, and kidney failure. He has come to the sobering realization that his days as a bodybuilder are over. He is incredibly optimistic and is already making mental life changes. He looks forward to being able to paint and just getting healthy.
On April 11th 2013 Devin finished his last day at The Firs Retirement Apartments as the Environmental Service Director after working there for 12 1/2 years of his life. He was excited to start a new career staging home for resale and pursue his dreams of painting murals. We are faced with two possibilities at the moment. Either heart transplant (or temporary LVAD till a heart is available) or we hope that he responds to medicine over time and he will be on extremely expensive medication for the rest of his life.(<< WE ARE PUTTING ALL HOPE INTO THIS) He has Cobra medical for 18 months; which will help and we are thankful for. They have warned us that the hospital stay could cost up to 1.2million. Monthly medication will be $2,000-$6,000 for the rest of his life. Any prays, thoughts, energy and finical help would be a huge blessing. We so appreciate the support.

Update posted by healingheart at 12:46 pmDevin has been officially moved out of the icu across the hall to a less critical unit. He is off the Ivs and onto oral medication now to keep his heart working. The medication has doubled his hearts a ability to pump blood which still is less then a healthy. . . . .

Devin just found he will be going through some genetic testing and additional cardiac MRIs next week. The walls of his heart are thickened and the reasons at this time are unclear. We are going over the possibility of returning home. It's a good thing he is an athlete because If this is a genetic heart disease catching this early on in his life could make a huge difference in his life. Thank you all for all the unconditional support and love :):):).
