I'm Etagu, and I'm from Ethiopia. Since I was five, I have lived and gone to school in the San Francisco Bay Area. I would like to go to Ghana in the Summer of 2015 with a group called Global Leadership Adventures. In Ghana, I will be teaching, working, learning, and having adventures.
Teaching: It will be amazing to be in the position of teaching young Ghanaian children. I was in the position of these kids when I was little in Ethiopia. I had bad experiences with learning academics. I want to teach kids with love and affection.
Working: When I work hard here in the US, I get a prize or money. There, making bricks to build a school, I'll being doing it just for the children, and I love that!
Learning: What I will be learning in Ghana will enhance the education that I will be getting at Oakland School for the Arts, especially in the areas of social issues facing women and children, slave history, arts, including West African drumming and dancing, and traditional textile crafts like dying fabric.
Adventure: I have always loved nature and making new friends. In Ghana, we will be hiking to one of the tallest waterfalls in West Africa and swimming. And of course I will making new friends both with the other teens and with the children!
Please donate to help me raise the $5,000 I need to persue this dream. In adition to accepting donations, I will be raising money through babysitting and teaching young girls to pitch and bat. If you would like my help in these areas, please contact me directly.
Thank you for your support. I am so excited!!!
