Campaign Story
In 2009 I was unlucky to lose my Son and very shortly afterwards my job and my relationship broke up. In order to be around more for my children I took a job that allowed flexibility as I was self employed. I employed what I believed was a credible Accountant but this week I have received a letter from HMRC telling me I have underpaid my taxes for a 3 year period by nearly £25000. It appears my Accountant changed how i was registered for tax without informing me. They have refused to take any blame and HMRC say i am liable not them. They are preparing to make me bankrupt as I cannot afford that amount of money straight away and they will not give me more than 12 months to pay it back either. They will not only make me bankrupt but will send round bailiffs to take everything bar the essentials.
My parents are old and cannot help and with a limited chance to earn more money dye to having children to look after I cannot see any way out of this.
I am desperate. Scared. And asking for help is not my wish as I would rather be allowed to pay over a long period but I cannot put my family through something I did not engineer.
This is a genuine please for any help people can give me and if I can repay anyone I will endeavour to do that.
