Dentals For Dachsies

 Help us raise money for rescued dachshunds. Many rescued dogs need dental care and treatment before they can be adopted out to their forever homes. Dachshunds in particular are prone to tooth decay and poor dental health, and come into rescue needing expensive vet care. Poor diet, infrequent vet care and general neglect can contribute to this problem. With your help we can provide them with much needed dental care, putting them back on the road to good health.  A visit to the vet for dental care is costly - a couple of hunderd dollars per dog - and that is if they don't need extensive treatment. Extractions, dental cleanings, blood work, etc. drives the cost up even higher - and can be prohibitive for the small budgets of many all-volunteer rescue groups.  I want to help by raising money for this one specific cause and help out my dedicated friends who are doing such great work in local rescue groups.   My own dachshunds suffered from dental problems even though I was a knowledgebale and caring owner. In 2009 two dentals, with blood work, extractions, antibiotics  and follow-up visits to the vet cost over $1400.00!  I am glad I was able to provide the care for my own dogs but it caused me to recognize the extent of the problem and the need for help - for our rescue groups who cannot provide this type of care.  Untreated dental issues often result in tooth loss, serious infections and even the loss of an eye if the infection is serious enough! Remember:February is Canine Dental Care month and many vets offer special discounts on dental cleanings during that time of year. Brush your dog's teeth daily and make sure you provide them with a quality diet. And, as always, please rescue! Thousands of dogs need  homes - Adopt! Don't Shop!!
