My name is Demetrius and I'm 23 years old. In 2003, I was shot by me brother who was playing with a gun. I was paralyzed from the waist down and have been in a wheelchair ever since. I am the only child out of six that has graduated from high school. I now attend a local community college and will graduating soon. Shortly after the accident, I was passed in foster care. I was placed with a lovely lady and her family. I have been in many relationships, which all ended in failure. I couldn't find anyone that would love and accept me for who I am. I felt everyone I dated only felt sorry for me or just wanted to see what it was like to date someone in a wheelchair. I felt like I would never find someone who would love and accept me for me. That all changed one night in 2011.
My Love Story
On night while on Facebook, I saw that one of my many friends had posted a status saying that she was bored and needed someone to talk to. I take a chance and commented, "Me too." A week later during one of our many phone conversations, she stated how she didn't know anything about football. I asked her if you would like me to teach her and she accepted my offer. She soon came over to watch a game with me. From that day on we have been inseparable. She has become a major part of my life. She has been there with me through the highs and lows. She was there when I lost my foster mom and my best friend. I know it's not easy dating a person with a disability but she has never treated me differently. She has always been there when I needed her. She gives without expecting anything in return. She me smile just by being her. I love her with all my heart. Even after three years, I still get butterflies when I see her. She has opened my eyes to all the things I never known I wanted. She helped me complete countless dreams I always wanted to check off my bucket list. We have completed many "first" together. I thank God for sending me a woman that completes me. I can't see my life without her so on September 7, 2013 I asked her to marry me. We are to be married on June 14, 2014.
I want to give her the wedding she deserves. I want her to have the wedding of her dreams. I just need help. I have saved money to give her the ring she always wanted. We have enough to get us started on our wedding planning but I need more to provide the wedding she deserves. This money would help her plan the wedding she wants and dreams. We still need to book and pay for our venue, caterer, and honeymoon. I want to show her how much I love and appreciate all that she do by giving her a wedding she will always remember.
