"History has its eyes on you" sang in unison by a harmonizing ensemble, followed by the obsessively repeated phrase “I am not throwing away my shot” – is the melody that plays through my mind whenever I enter a theatre hall. The lyrics that belong to the heavily acclaimed musical entitled “Hamilton” put into words my everlasting ambition and became my personal mottos.

Hi! My name is Ioana Delia Stirbu and I am a Romanian actress, theatre director and photographer. I have been accepted into the Actor's Studio Master of Fine Arts in Acting program at Pace University, New York City. I am ready to move to New York City in September, but there is one thing that still hinders me from achieving my dream: tuition. As there are no scholarships or financial aid solutions for international students, I am hoping that through this fundraiser I am able to reach the people and/or institutions willing to support me and my journey. This fundraiser is only for my first year of studies (out of three).

My passion for theatre began at a young age, but the story is as simple as you can imagine: I had a lot of free time after school and my mother searched for a way to change that, so she chose acting classes. Little did she know how much this decision would impact the course of my life. From that moment forward, wherever I would go, theatre would follow.

Each school year came with a few new shows I could play in. That didn't change when I started high-school and joined the Musical Theatre Drama club. Together with my colleagues and good friends, I had the opportunity and privilege of staging musicals in various theatre halls throughout Bucharest. This experience has sparked my love for musicals. That was the moment when I truly decided upon and acknowledged my future career.

After graduation, I studied Theatre Directing at 'Ion Luca Caragiale' University of Theatre and Film. The three years I spent as an undergraduate theatre student have proven to be some of the most exigent, demanding, mentally stimulating and effervescent I have ever experienced. However, I felt like something was missing, like I belonged elsewhere. It was a journey of de-construction and re-construction of the self at the end of which I came to the realization that I could never be just a director. I am an actor, a photographer and a director, a multidimensional artist. That is why musical theatre kept coming back into my life one way or another. Even if it materialized only in small musical pieces I directed and choreographed for my acting class or in staging musical theatre shows with teenage aspiring actors, one could not deny that the passion I had discovered during my adolescent years spent on stage was always going to come back to me. I came to the conclusion that my true potential could only be reached overseas, by training and working alongside the best in my field who share my love for theatre. Being aware that the U.S.A. is the epicenter of musical theatre, I knew there was no better place for me to pursue Graduate School. In this respect, New York City was my instinctive choice, seeing as it is a hub of theatre artists of all social backgrounds and ethnicities and the home of Broadway.

I am excited to begin this journey and I'm hoping that I will be able to do that in September 2022 - thanks to you!

„History has its eyes on you” – frază cântată la unison, urmată de fraza „I am not throwing away my shot” repetată obsesiv. Aceasta este melodia care îmi trece prin minte de fiecare dată când pătrund într-o sală de teatru. Versurile care aparțin musical-ului de mare succes intitulat „Hamilton” au reușitsă pună în cuvinte ambiția mea și au devenit un motto.

Bună! Mă numesc Ioana Delia Știrbu. Sunt actriță, regizor de teatru și fotograf de orginie română. AM fost acceptată la programul de Master din cadrul Actor’s Studio de la Pace University, în New York City. Sunt gata de marea mutare la New York în septembrie, însă un singur aspect mă împiedică încă să ajung acolo: taxa de școlarizare. Deoarece nu există burse sau ajutor financiar pentru studenți internaționali, sper că prin această strângere de fonduri să pot ajunge la persoanele/instituțiile care își doresc și au posibilitatea să mă susțină în călătoria mea. Această strângere de fonduri acoperă doar primul an de studiu (în total sunt trei).

Pasiunea mea pentru teatru a început la o vârstă fragedă, dar povestea este foarte simplă: aveam mult timp liber după orele de curs de la școală, așa că mama mea a căutat un mod prin care să îmi umple acest timp într-un mod folositor.A ales cursurile de actorie. Nu putea ști pe atunci ce impact urma să aibă această decizie asupra vieții mele de mai târziu. Din acel moment oriunde mergeam, teatrul îmi era alături.

Fiecare an școlar reprezenta o nouă oportunitate de a juca pe scenă. Acest aspect nu s-a schimbat când am intrat la liceu și am devenit parte din Trupa de Teatru și Musical a acestuia. Alături de colegii și prietenii mei buni am avut oportunitatea de a juca pe scene importante din București (Teatrul Național, Teatrul Odeon, Teatrul Excelsior, Teatrul Evreiesc de Stat, Teatrul Nottara, ARCUB). Datorită acestei experiențe s-a născut pasiunea mea pentru teatrul muzical. Acela a fost momentul în care mi-am decis și asumat viitoarea carieră.

După absolvirea liceului am studiat Regia de Teatrul la UNATC (Universitatea Națională de Artă Teatrală și Cinematografică „I.L. Caragiale”). Cei trei ani petrecuți în acest cadru s-au dovedit a fi unii dintre cei mai exigenți, asprii, efervescenți și plini de stimuli pe care i-am experimentat până acum. Totuși, simțeam că ceva lipsește, că locul meu era altundeva. A fost o călătorie a demolării și reconstruirii personale la finalul căreia am realizat că nu voi putea fi doar regizor. Sunt actriță, fotograf și regizor, un artist multidimensional. De aceea teatrul muzical a continuat să revină în viața mea într-o formă sau alta. Chiar dacă se concretiza în mici momente pe care le regizam și cărora le făceam coregrafia pentru orele de actorie sau în lucrul cu actorii adolescenți, nu mai exista îndoială că pasiunea din adolescență avea să revină. Am ajuns la concluzia că adevăratul meu potențial poate fi valorificat peste ocean, antrenânu-mă și lucrând alături de cei mai buni în domeniu. Cum SUA este epicentrul teatrului muzical, știam că acela este cel mai bun loc în care să îmi desfășor studiile de Master. Astfel, New York City a fost alegerea instinctivă, fiind nucleul teatrului în america și găzduind bine-cunoscutul Broadway.

Cu entuziasm pornesc în această călătorie, care sper că va deveni realitate în Septembrie 2022 mulțumită vouă!
